Storytelling in a coffee shop.
What if specialty coffee drinks could transport you into other stories, experiences and moments in time? We believe coffee is an excellent way to bridge cultures, deepen connection and exchange ideas. We hope our seasonal menus can provide a unique experience to engage deeper in your community through our coffee.
Below you will find some of our past seasonal menus and the stories they told.
Fall Menu 2026
At Vigilant Hope Roasting, we invite you to journey with us this fall through a significant moment in Wilmington history. Vigilant Hope is committed to the flourishing of the Southside of Wilmington, a community that was and continues to be deeply impacted by the Massacre of 1898. This November marks 128 years since this historical event but the ripples impact our community in very real ways. Come visit our cafe at 24 S. 16th Street and sip through our menu, check out our book nook, join us on a tour with WilmingtoNColor or follow one of these links to engage more with our city's history. Thank you to our friends at WilmingtoNColor, Tim Pinnick with NHCCRP, Jamar with Relationship Over Religion, and Qailinn and Cierra with Growing Resilience for helping us make this happen. With their collaboration, we were able to share the stories and events of 1898 for our fall menu.Summer Menu 2026
Picture this: you're a kid living in the Southside of Wilmington and it's finally summer. Our 2026 summer menu drinks are meant to transport our customers tastebuds to different childhood summer memories through the lens of a kid in our neighborhood. As you sip on our drinks and listen to the paired song, we hope you immerse yourself in to the drink's story and summertime in Wilmington, NC. Spring Menu 2026
For our Spring Menu, we wanted to highlight some stories as ‘buds of hope’ Vigilant Hope has noticed in the south side of Wilmington. Our Winter menu theme was a deep dive into what peacemaking may look like in our city. For our spring menu, we wanted to share some stories and examples of hope that has already been planted and is budding. Just as we are committed to deep collaboration and presence, it’s important to not overlook moments and stories of renewal and new life. We believe that everything and anyone can be used to tell stories, even a beverage menu. As you sip through our spring drinks, we hope you can taste, hear, experience, and feel invited in to our story at Vigilant Hope. Our Winter Menu 2025 shares the story of God’s work in the Southside community and within Vigilant Hope this past year. In 2025, we have rooted ourselves in Jeremiah 29:4–7, where God calls the exiled Israelites to build, plant, and settle in a foreign land. Though far from home and the temple, the Israelites are instructed to seek the welfare of the city where they have been sent—for in its welfare, they will find their own. As we step into 2026, Vigilant Hope is building off Jeremiah 29 and now turns to Matthew 5:9. In Jesus’s first sermon, He unveils His subversive, upside-down Kingdom, beginning with the Beatitudes—the blessings that redefine who is honored in the Kingdom of God. Among them, He proclaims that peacemakers are blessed and will be called children of God.
Vigilant Hope has long pointed toward this Kingdom, where shalom—wholeness, peace, and flourishing—takes root within us and within our neighborhoods. We are mindful that Jesus said peacemakers, not peacekeepers. Peacemaking requires movement, presence, and participation. As we embrace this call, we seek to root ourselves in Jesus’s vision of a world where the last are finally first.
We believe that everything and anyone can be used to tell stories, even a beverage menu. As you sip through our winter drinks, we hope you can taste, hear, experience, and feel invited in to our story at Vigilant Hope.
